Amatsuki Virtual-World History Anime’s Promo Streamed

The official Japanese website for the <a  href=”http://en.isoshu.com/search/%20Amatsuki/all-1″>Amatsuki</a> television anime series is streaming a one-minute, 35-second promotional movie. The story follow a boy named Tokidoki Rikugō as he gets trapped in an advanced museum’s fully immersive, virtual recreation of ancient Edo-era Japan. The recreation happens to include supernatural creatures and magic.

This anime adaptation of Shinobu Takayama’s manga was announced in October, and the series will premiere on April 4. Kazuhiro Furuhashi (<a  href=”http://en.isoshu.com/search/Rurouni%20Kenshin/all-1″>Rurouni Kenshin</a>,<a  href=”http://en.isoshu.com/search/Le%20Chevalier%20D’Eon/all-1″> Le Chevalier D’Eon</a>, Getbackers) is directing the Studio DEEN project and co-writing the scripts with Chieko Suzuki. Shinobu Tagashira (Shonen Onmyouji, <a  href=”http://english.isoshu.com/search/Hunter%20X%20Hunter/all-1″>Hunter X Hunter</a>) is designing the characters. Voice actor Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion’s Lelouch, XXXHOLiC’s Kimihiro) plays Tokidoki, and Koji Yusa (Ergo Proxy’s Vincent) plays Kon, another boy trapped in virtual world.

Japan appoints its first cartoon ambassador

TOKYO – Japan has created an unusual government post to promote animation, and named a perfect figure Wednesday to the position: a popular cartoon robot cat named Doraemon.

Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura appointed the cat an “anime ambassador,” handing a human-sized Doraemon doll an official certificate at an inauguration ceremony, along with dozens of “dorayaki” red bean pancakes — his favorite dessert — piled on a huge plate.

Komura told the doll, with an unidentified person inside, that he hoped he would widely promote Japanese animated cartoons, or “anime.”
